THE Jets surged to the top of the A-League ladder on Saturday night with a sensational come-from-behind 2-1 victory against Adelaide at Coopers Stadium.
It was Newcastle’s fourth victory from six games, and with two draws, they remain the competition’s only unbeaten team.
After Sydney’s upset loss to Central Coast on Friday night, Newcastle overtook them in top spot, although Melbourne City can move into the lead if they beat Western Sydney on Sunday.
Newcastle are on 14 points, ahead of Sydney (13) and City (12). Wanderers (7) and Perth (7) are equal fourth.
Adelaide opened the scoring in the 23rd minute through Nikola Mileusnic, but Jets midfielder Ben Kantarovski equalised just before half-time.
Newcastle grabbed the lead two minutes after half-time when Andrew Nabbout scored his second goal in as many games.
The Jets had two golden chances to extend their advantage but leading scorer Roy O’Donovan and Nabbout were unable to capitalise.
Despite a few nervous moments, Newcastle defended their lead to notch their second consecutive win.
