Fishing Point 33-year-old Matt Willett will live out a cricketing dream this Sunday when he walks onto the hallowed SCG turf.
The hard-working Cardiff-Boolaroo paceman has made his way into the Newcastle representative squad this summer and will play for the Blasters in the Regional Bash T20 finals.
“I’m very humbled to even be in the side,” Willett said.
“Playing with a great bunch of blokes who represent the city well and now, on top of that, playing at the SCG is just a fantastic bonus.”
The right-armer has only watched a “few” Big Bash League games at the famed Moore Park venue previously, but said he was looking forward to getting out there against Northern Rivers Rock.
“It’s been a long time coming for me to play rep cricket and to have that opportunity to play on the SCG is a dream come true,” he said. “Like it would be for most kids around NSW.”
Willett was recently part of the Blasters’ successful round-robin campaign. Newcastle all-rounder Joe Price (groin) has been passed fit. Winners from Sunday’s semis progress to the 2017 decider that night.
