Bosch bid for Pacifica succeeds

Robert Bosch's $A298.5 million friendly bid for Australian automotive brake maker Pacifica Group has succeeded, the world's largest car parts supplier says.

Bosch received 50.86 per cent of the shares in Pacifica and said it would integrate it into its Chassis Systems Brakes operations.

Pacifica posted 480 million euros ($A800 million) in annual revenue in 2005.

The offer runs until March 4.

"The takeover of the Pacifica Group will bolster our brake business, above all in America and Asia-Pacific," Bosch automotive division head Bernd Bohr said in a statement.

The German industrial conglomerate, which also makes power tools and household appliances among other products, posted revenue of about five billion euros ($A8.34 billion) for its braking systems business last year.

This was nearly a fifth of its overall turnover from the sale of automotive parts.

Late in November, Bosch raised its Pacifica offer by 15 per cent to $A2.20 per share, winning support from the target's board even though Pacifica management rejected an earlier $A2.40 a share offer in July from an unidentified bidder.
