Suburb Profile: New Lambton


Tree-lined streets, beautiful homes, highly regarded schools and a choice of reserves and parks has made New Lambton a sought-after suburb for families.

It enjoys a central position in the city of Newcastle within 10 minutes’ drive of the CBD and some of the best beaches on offer.

New Lambton is close to John Hunter Hospital and moments to the University of Newcastle.

Prices of homes in the area have been steadily rising and, according to Australian Property Monitors, the median sale price has risen from $470,000 in 2013 to close to $700,000 last year.


McDonald Jones Stadium is positioned at the north-eastern corner of the suburb.

Just five minutes away is Westfield Kotara shopping centre, which is undergoing a major renovation. New Lambton also features shopping villages in Regent Street and Orchardtown Road.

Nearly one-third of the suburb is taken up by Blackbutt Reserve, a 182-hectare nature reserve with peaceful walking trails and a wildlife sanctuary. There are several sports fields and Fernleigh Track cycleway is nearby.

New Lambton is one of Newcastle’s most family friendly suburbs, with 42 per cent of the area covered in parkland and the majority of households being couples with children.

The whole family will be able to enjoy the area with great cafes, schools, sporting and nature reserves and entertainment at Wests New Lambton all close by. 

There are five schools in the area, offering plenty of choice. Escape to Blackbutt Reserve or drive to Newcastle city, only 7km away.
