Jean Bas had ambition, skill and “one little seamstress” when she started her atelier in the 1980s.

When the doors opened on King Street she would cut her material on a ping-pong table and the pair would share a single domestic sewing machine.

A lot has changed since then and the business has seen remarkable success, from making local workwear collections, to a window display in David Jones department stores.

Transforming her business has been the key to longevity for Jean Bas.
