TWO men accused of breaking into cars around Hamilton East and Merewether will face court in March.
Police arrested a 53-year-old man in Hamilton East shortly before 9.30am on Tuesday after he was seen acting suspiciously around parked vehicles.
Police seized items alleged to have been stolen from cars in the Newcastle area, and have charged the man with larceny, goods in custody and breach of bail.
He was given conditional bail to appear on March 27.
That afternoon police were called to a Frederick Street car park at Merewether amid reports of a man acting suspiciously.
They arrested a 47-year-old man who was charged with enter enclosed lands, goods in custody, larceny and possess prohibited drug.
He will face court on March 8.
Newcastle crime manager Detective Chief Inspector Steve Laksa said police were proactively targeting thieves breaking into cars.
“We also encourage people to continue to report any suspicious activity they see to police so we can act swiftly to arrest people and put them before the court,” he said. “If you see something or have information about a crime, please report it directly to police or via Crime Stoppers.”
