REJUVENATED Newcastle Jets defender Hannah Brewer has a chance to push for Asian Cup selection after being named in the Matildas squad on Tuesday.

Brewer was rewarded for a fine W-League campaign with selection in the 22-women squad for the Algarve Cup, which starts in Portugal Wednesday week.

The 24-year-old, back in the national set up for the first time since 2014, will be joined by fellow Novocastrian and recent Orlando Pride signing Emily van Egmond.

The Matildas meet Norway (February 28), hosts Portugal (March 2) and China (March 5) followed by a fourth and final ranking match.

They return for a friendly against Thailand in Perth on March 26 before embarking on the 2018 AFC Women’s Asian Cup in Jordan in April.

“We’ll have four games over just eight days in Portugal, so the tournament will provide a chance for all the players involved in the squad to impress as we move towards the AFC Women’s Asian Cup,” Matildas coach Alen Stajcic said.

The Matildas will be without attacker Kyah Simon, who suffered a hamstring injury playing for Melbourne City in Sunday’s 2-0 W-League grand final victory over Sydney FC.

Adelaide 19-year-old Alex Chidiac is her replacement.
