Randwick: Perast offering value for trainer Paul Perry on tough program

Paul Perry hopes Perast can provide some joy on a Randwick program offering “as good a racing as you will see” on Saturday.

The master Newcastle trainer has six starters in black-type races at Randwick, however, all but Perast are at long odds.

The three-year-old Snitzel colt won the group 3 Caulfield Guineas Prelude (1400m) before running fifth in the main event last October but has had only two trials since.

He resumes in the listed Fireball Stakes (1100m) for three-year-olds on Saturday. From the widest gate in nine and with the topweight, Perast was $13 at TAB Fixed Odds on Friday.

“He’s had a couple of trials back and it’s a nice race to start him off in anyway,” Perry said.

“There looks to be a mile of speed in the race so he should get a nice run sitting off them, so I reckon he’s got a good each-way chance.

“He performed well last time in and I’ve been happy with him.”

Perry also has Inglis Nursery runner-up Ragged Rascal ($61) in the Todman Stakes (1200) and group 1 winner The Mission ($61) in the Challenge Stakes (1000m). Both are resuming at group 2 level.

Condor ($101) is in the group 1 Randwick Guineas (1600m), Conchita ($41) races in the group 3 Weona Girl Quality (1200m) and The Getaway ($34) is in the Randwick City Stakes (2000m).

“The others are just get started and getting them into the swing of things,” Perry said.

“It’s as good a racing as you will see. There’s four or five chances in every race.”
