PUSHING AHEAD: Mia Dyson's sixth album is her first on a record label.

PUSHING AHEAD: Mia Dyson's sixth album is her first on a record label.

IT’S been almost a decade since Victorian blues-rock singer-songwriter Mia Dyson decamped to Los Angeles to be closer to the music she adorns. Dyson’s passion for America’s southern rock has never been stronger than on her sixth album If I Said Only So Far I Take It Back.

Fool kicks along with an anthemic ‘80s rock riff, while Whole Is The Bleeding Heart is inspired by Fleetwood Mac’s pure pop mastery. Dyson’s trademark blues-guitar shredding takes a backward step to melody and song structure throughout, the result is potentially her most commercial and appealing album to date.

Husband Karl Linder has again provided the lyrics to present Dyson at her most vulnerable and honest, especially on the delicate Being Scared and the brooding I Defy You
