It’s just a jump to the left and a step out of the comfort zone for a handful of Novocastrians who are gearing up to undertake just a few short weeks of training before a one-night-only performance to raise funds for cancer research.
An announcement today at 11am will name a group of community leaders who will slip on their dancing shoes and partner up with a professional dancer to train, fundraise and, on June 16, perform all in a bid to raise $100,000 for the NSW Cancer Council.
Today’s meet-the-stars announcement will launch the annual dance fundraising event that last year topped the $100,000 goal.
The 2017 contestants came from varied backgrounds – from a builder, to journos, to a yoga instructor, and everything in between – and successfully raised around $125,000.
The highest fundraiser of 2017, Newcastle builder Mato Damir, collecting nearly $40,000 in donations alone.
