The condition of a toddler who was hit by a car at Woodberry has been downgraded from critical to serious.
A Hunter New England Health spokesperson said the two-year-old was in a “serious but stable” condition in John Hunter Hospital on Wednesday afternoon.
The toddler was in a critical condition for several days after he was run over in the driveway of a Seganhoe Street home about 6.30pm on Saturday.
The driver, Jessica Williams, 22, was arrested after allegedly testing positive to having illicit drugs in her system.
She was charged with dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm, negligent driving, not reversing vehicle safely and altering the amount of an illicit drug in her system.
CCTV footage of the incident shows a number of children surrounding the Holden Commodore as it starts to reverse.
Most of the children move away except for the toddler who is seen to walk behind the car. The toddler suffered critical injuries.
Friends of Ms Williams said she was “traumatised” after the ordeal.
“She didn’t mean to do this,” one said.
