Newcastle Beachwatch with Dave Anderson: Monday, July 16, 2018

Swells hanging about and offshore winds for next few days making for some classic winter waves. There is still a lack of banks and shore breaks due to the deep long gutters so try the reefs. Swell from the south to south-east at 1.5 to 2 metres. Winds freshening north-west to west.

Tides low for the early and sure to be a windchill. Southern corners and reefs handling conditions best. Nobbys Reef, South Bar, Pogos and Merewether. Burwood, Dudley and Catherine Hill Bay to the south. One Mile and Samurai up at Port Stephens. Heavy shore breaks with steep drop-overs, causing poor swimming conditions at some beaches. Listen out for lifeguards at patrolled beaches. The water is 15 degrees.
