Short Takes May 15 2018: readers have their say on the day’s news

CAN someone please explain to me how the NSW EPA can screw over the good people of Stockton in regard to removal of waste from an exposed rubbish tip, yet continue to do nothing about PFAS contamination at Williamtown? It appears that if you live on that side of Stockton Bridge, it’s out of sight out of mind!

PREPARE yourself for the sequel to The Untouchables. Let us wait and see what punishment Cameron Smith doesn't receive.

ONE should not condemn a child or person for believing in fairy-tales or Santa Claus, nor belief in a Heaven and Hell existing outside of time and space. Patience and tolerance requires enough time for people to grow up, develop kind and circumspect values whilst, in the mean-time, allowing them to play their chosen games.

THE government has been behind in the polls for a while. They delivered a disgraceful budget last week and now they have jumped ahead of Labor in the polls. How stupid are the people of Australia? This arrogant, out of touch government needs to be removed.

NOW that Kim and Donald are going to cosy up to a meeting in Singapore they should both put the first crib break to good use and visit a new hairdresser down on Orchard Road.

A container terminal at the Port of Newcastle handling 1 million TEU containers a year between 2023 and 2063 requires the NSW Government paying the Port Botany lessee, NSW Ports, $6 billion. NSW Ports paid $5.1 billion for a 99-year lease in 2013. I believe this arrangement was kept secret because it could not be justified. The arrangement is a tax on northern NSW business and consumers, who pay higher costs to have their goods shipped through Port Botany.

IT HAS been run and won (well lost) there is no point in bringing up the A-League grand final everyday. At the end of the night, the Jets didn't score a goal in the remaining 83 minutes. Yes, it sucks, but it's time for all of us to move on.

THE Archibald exhibition is amazing. We are so lucky to have it in Newy!
