AFL Polding on South Coast

The NSWPSSA AFL Championships are running this week at Batemans Bay.

The Diocese has six players representing Polding at the three-day event.

Joe Harrison made the side from St Paul’s Gateshead; Blake Dunn from St Mary’s Warners Bay; Kasper Mole and Rory Hodgson from St Joseph’s East Maitland; Abe Russell from St Patrick’s Lochinvar; and Zachery Yurisich from St Mary’s Warners Bay.

In other Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle junior sport news, both the primary and secondary Diocesan Cross Country carnivals were held in recent weeks.

It was a new and more challenging course for primary this year being held at Walka Waterworks, Oakhampton Heights.

The gradients were steeper and the terrain more true to cross country so it certainly tested the best of runners.

Emma McCallum and Riley Barnes won the 8/9 age group.

Aurelia Russell and Ben Hindle took out the 10s division.

Phoebe Doran and Abrahm Russell claimed the honours in the 11s division.

Poppy Doran and Demetrius Rohr finished the best of the 12/13s age group.

Secondary cross country was held at Lake Glenbawn Dam, just outside of Scone, in very dry and dusty conditions.

The winners for each category were Molly Salvador, Emily Rowell, Madison McArthur, Krystal Porteus, Emmeline Pepper, Abbey Last, Eliza hand, Tristan Head, Oscar Roberts, James Reid, Liam Dixon, Jack McCurdy, Samuel Taylor and Donald Sullivan.
