Quarry Mining and Construction Equipment Pty Ltd is an Australian manufacturer literally on the cutting edge of innovation.

Based in the Hunter with sites in Mackay and Sydney, Quarry Mining provides a full range of drilling consumables, expert advice and onsite support to the underground coal mining, tunnelling, quarries and construction industries.

They do this via one of the most modern CNC centres in Australia at their manufacturing site in Beresfield.

“Using our in-house CNC machining centre, coupled with our CAD modelling, design software and 3D printing capabilities, we can provide certified designs and prototypes in a cost effective way, eliminating the need for many costly manufacturing and fabricating iterations,” managing director Kari Armitage said.

“Once the solution is tailored (ie 3D printed), our engineers team up with our tradies and the projects are crystallised for delivery.

“Once the tool is ready for testing, site trials can be done with our engineers and trades team, and that includes our qualified Safety expert who can deliver all the documents you need to implement a new tool seamlessly in to the workplace.”

This  ability to design, build and test  small but challenging projects   in-house,  saves  clients the significant time and trouble it takes to engage, manage and bridge the communication gap between different design consultants and fabrication work companies.

“The in-house capabilities are a result of 10 years of striving for  excellence in the delivery of bespoke tools that complete solutions for our clients in a time and cost effective manner,” Kari said. “We believe our mix of capabilities give us the best opportunity and flexibility when it comes to delivering superior products.”

That mix of capabilities includes:

  • FDM 3D Printers for rapid prototyping and Resin SLA 3D printers capable of printing high resolution prints in various materials from high strength, flexible, high temperature and castable resins.   Large range of high quality PLA and ABS filaments available in-house
  • Heat treatment
  • Batch carburising
  • Through hardening
  •  Annealing – to achieve a refined micro structure
  • Normalising-  ensure material uniformity
  • Stress Relieving – to eliminate residual stresses in the structure
  • Hardness testing and metallurgical services for certification of procedures
  • Plasma cutter - CNC Plasma 3000 x 1500mm Cutting Table and Hypertherm Powermax 125 to cut up to 25mm Mild Steel Plate.   Also capable of cutting Stainless Steel in various thicknesses

“We are continually improving existing products, as well as developing new ones,” Kari said. “Our aim is to make the drilling process safer, while increasing productivity and cost efficiency.”

Quarry Mining is the Boart Longyear distributor for top hammer products on the East Coast of Australia.

“Our in-house manufacturing and engineering capabilities are world class and our product distribution range extends to spiling anchors, ventilation, grouting and the full range of pneumatic hoses and associated fittings,” Kari said. “We have a  highly regarded reputation amongst our clients and hold long term contracts and preferred supplier status with many of the large mining houses and blue chip civil construction companies.”
