Taser used in arrest during alleged Newcastle West car break-in

A MAN was due to face court on Sunday after he was tasered and arrested allegedly while trying to break into a car in Newcastle West. 

Police were called to the corner of Parry and Steel Streets about 10am on Saturday after reports a man was trying to break into a parked car. 

Officers arrived and spoke to a man before he allegedly became aggressive towards them. 

They discharged their taser and arrested a 31-year-old man at the scene. 

The man was taken to Newcastle police station and charged with offences including assault police, resist arrest, malicious damage and unlawful entry into motor vehicle.

He was refused bail. 

A senior constable was treated for an injured knee.
