Dwayne Eric Welsh charged with shooting at police vehicle during pursuit at Belmont North

A MAN accused of shooting at a police vehicle during a pursuit at Belmont North in April has been refused bail.

Dwayne Eric Welsh, 37, was arrested at Goulburn Correctional Centre on Tuesday and taken to Goulburn police station where he was charged with discharging a firearm with intent to resist arrest, possession of a shortened firearm, aggravated break and enter and stealing a motor vehicle. 

He appeared in Goulburn Local Court on Tuesday afternoon and was refused bail to appear in Belmont Local Court on Monday.

According to police, the NSW Police Dog Squad initiated a pursuit with a Holden Commodore at Belmont North about 3.30am on April 19. The pursuit sped through suburban streets before turning onto the Pacific Highway. It’s at this time police allege the passenger leant out the window and fired a shotgun at the pursuing police car.
