DIOCESE REPORT: Students feature in representative sides

The primary Diocesan rugby selection trials were held last week at Marcellin Park near Maitland with over 50 boys attending.

The talent was high and made it a tough job for selectors. Jack Keenan was always busy showing an outstanding skill set, Kaspar Mole worked tirelessly in defence and attack, and Xavier Stewart showed great pace to finish with a brace of tries.

A team of 20 will now head to Forbes for the NSWCPS trials on the last Monday of term.

At the recent NSW Polding touch trials in Parkes strength was shown from the Taree region with Hannah Chicken, MacKlin Green and Mailey Osmond Dreyer all making the Polding side as well as Xavier Stewart from Nelson Bay.

The NSWCCC football selections were held in Sydney recently. It is very tough competition and we often do not get anyone selected.

This year was outstanding with Jett White from All Saints College, Lewis Rooney from St Francis Xavier’s Hamilton and Ryan Goodhew from St Paul’s Booragul all named in the team. The NSWCCC team will compete at NSW All Schools.

Some of our students have achieved selection in a NSW PSSA team to attend a School Sport Australia event.

Oscar Archbold from St Patrick’s Cessnock was the only boy selected from the Polding team to make the NSWPSSA team for football.

At the NSW PSSA basketball Polding took out the tournament featuring the state’s best. Saffron Shiels from St Paul’s Gateshead and Hannah Chicken from St Joseph’s Taree  gained selection in the NSW PSSA team.
