Hunter Water is encouraging community organisations to apply for a share in $50,000 in funding, as part of its new Love Water grants program.

The funding aims to support local initiatives that promote water conservation or the protection of the environment, as well as education projects which teach the value and importance of the precious resource.

Hunter Water Managing Director Jim Bentley said the Love Water grants program provides an opportunity for the community to be more aware of water conservation and find ways to help save it together.

“We’re encouraging community groups and organisations to apply for a share in this funding, because together we can make a difference in protecting our most precious resource.

“Our Love Water grants program welcomes local projects and initiatives that focus on sustainability in relation to water or wastewater.

“Investing in our community is the first step in driving meaningful and lasting change when it comes to valuing and conserving water. Water belongs to all of us and we all have a role to play in ensuring a sustainable future for generations to come,” said Mr Bentley.

Hunter Water will consider the following criteria when selecting successful applicants:

  • The aim of the initiative and how it promotes water conservation through shared learning and education, efficiency improvements and/or awareness.
  • The environmental and community benefits.
  • Opportunities to publicly acknowledge the partnership between Hunter Water and the initiative.
  • Customer benefits from the initiative.
  • Opportunities for Hunter Water employees to be involved.
  • Involvement, funding or any arrangements with other organisations to support the initiative.
