The Rams marked their 40th anniversary celebrations with an important 2-0 win against University at Maitland on Sunday.

Ryan Lange and Matt Brown scored either side of the break for the home side, following the club’s milestone event on Saturday night, to edge closer to the Hunter Coast Premier Hockey League top four.

Maitland (12 points) remain fifth on the competition ladder, now three shy of both Souths and Wests (15), with seven rounds remaining in the regular season.

Souths had the bye while Wests went down 5-2 to joint leaders Gosford.

It sets up a vital month ahead for the Rams, who face Norths, Souths and Wests in consecutive games after this weekend’s bye.

Elsewhere and Nick Hill nabbed a double as Norths accounted for The Entrance 4-1 at Newcastle International Hockey Centre on Sunday.

Brad Binns and Dane Pettitt also found the back of the net for the Blues but teenage goalkeeper Joel Tweedie was outstanding for The Entrance.

On the Central Coast and Liam Alexander marked his return for Gosford with a goal.

LADDER: Gosford, Norths 19; Souths, Wests 15; Maitland 12, The Entrance 4, University 0.
