Australian Business Lawyers & Advisors’ CEO, Nigel Ward

Australian Business Lawyers & Advisors’ CEO, Nigel Ward, announced the promotion of two senior practitioners to head up the Newcastle office and reiterated its vision for growth.

Kyle Scott and Suzie Leask were promoted to Associate Directors, jointly taking the leadership role, under the stewardship of Dr Rod Harrison, former Newcastle based Deputy President of the NSW IRC and the Fair Work Commission and well-known Novocastrian.

Australian Business Lawyers & Advisors (ABLA) is owned by the NSW Business Chamber,  unique for a law firm being owned by a not-for-profit organisation.

“When we started this venture with the Chamber seven years ago, we always had Newcastle in mind for an office, given the very strong history the Chamber has in this region,” Mr Ward said.  “The firm has had strong support from local businesses over the past three years and we have a solid strategic plan to further grow and support our clients in this region.”

ABLA recently won “Employment Law Specialist of the Year” at the Australasian Law Awards.  Since the Newcastle office opened in 2015, the business has organically grown to have a strong focus on workplace relations and commercial law for businesses based in the region.

Both Kyle and Suzie were born and raised in local area, moving to Sydney to kick start their careers.  Their love of Newcastle was never far, and they both made the decision to move their families home for the quality of life the region offered.

Kyle has been with ABLA for five years and this year was named by Doyles Guide as a ‘Rising Star’ in Employment Law. Suzie joined ABLA after beginning her career at one of Sydney’s top-tier firms followed by a stint as in-house legal counsel for a global multi-national.

Suzie is well-regarded as an expert in her field of corporate and commercial law, recently being nominated as finalist in the Newcastle Business Club Annual Awards 2018. Together, with Dr Rod Harrison, the firm offers solid experience across the workplace, employment, corporate and commercial practice areas.

Only acting for businesses gives ABLA the focused expertise across industries and sectors. Following the strength of the Chamber movement in regional areas, ABLA will continue to expand and support businesses in these regions.
