A British man has been arrested following an investigation into the sexual assault of a woman and the assault of a man in the Snowy Mountains last week.
Two friends, believed to be from the Hunter Region, were attacked while on holidays in Jindabyne.
About 1.30am Thursday police were called to Kosciuszko Road to reports a 22-year-old woman and a 25-year-old man had been assaulted.
Police were told the pair was walking along the footpath after leaving a nearby licensed premises when the man was punched in the head, rendering him unconscious, before the woman was physically and sexually assaulted.
NSW Ambulance paramedics treated the pair at the scene for serious facial injuries before taking them to hospital for further treatment. They have both since been released.
Detectives from State Crime Command’s Child Abuse and Sex Crimes Squad and Monaro Police District established Strike Force Buckeridge to investigate the incident.
Following extensive investigations, strike force detectives arrested a 28-year-old man outside a home unit at Jindabyne just after 9am Tuesday.
Shortly after, a search warrant was executed at the unit, where investigators seized items relevant to the investigation.
The man, who is British national, was taken to Jindabyne Police Station.
Inquiries are continuing.
