CCTV: Knife-wielding man threatens staff at Wallsend service station, escapes with cash, cigarettes

POLICE are on the hunt for a knife-wielding man who threatened staff at a Wallsend petrol station, before escaping on foot.

Police investigating the armed robbery have released CCTV footage in an appeal for public assistance.

About 11.10pm on Tuesday July 3, a man, armed with a knife, entered the service station on the corner of Newcastle Road and Douglas Street.

He threatened a male staff member before stealing cash and cigarettes, and fleeing the scene on foot.

No one was injured during the incident.

Officers from Newcastle City Police District established a crime scene and commenced an investigation.

Investigators have released CCTV footage of a man who may be able to assist with their inquiries.

The man has been described as being of Caucasian appearance, aged between 25 to 35, and with blond facial hair. In the vision, he is shown to be wearing a black hooded jacket, black pants, grey running shoes and black gloves.
