Aggravated robbery charge over Waratah incident

A MAN will face court on Thursday charged with an alleged assault and robbery in Newcastle. 

Police will allege in court a 28-year-old man attended a Morpeth Street property in Waratah on June 27 to meet a man who was known to him. 

While there he began to argue with another man he did not know. The unknown man allegedly punched the 28-year-old and demanded cash before producing a knife and threatening him. 

The incident was reported to police on June 29. 

Following inquiries, police searched the Morpeth Street property on Wednesday.

A 48-year-old man was arrested and charged with take/detain in company with intent to get advantage, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, aggravated robbery and inflict actual bodily harm, larceny, and possess prohibited drug.

He was refused bail to face Newcastle Local Court on July 12.
