Police are investigating after a child was approached at Hamilton

Police are appealing for information after a child was approached by a man in Newcastle on Thursday.

Police say a five-year-old girl was approached by a man around 10am at a park in Hamilton before he allegedly kissed her on the cheek.

The child’s carer came to her aid and the man left in a silver vehicle parked nearby.

Police were notified and detectives from Newcastle City Police District began investigating.

The man has been described as being of Middle Eastern appearance, 180cm tall, black hair and facial hair.

He was last seen wearing a leather jacket and long pants.
