For 100 years Newcastle Grammar has been centrally located in the heart of the city and its people, educating and actively giving back where it can.
Staff and students have been immersed in the city beyond the classroom in a multitude of ways, proudly participating in civic affairs and sporting life.
“As part of our Centenary Celebrations earlier this year, for example, we held a Community Concert in King Edward Park on May 5 which drew over 5000 people,” NGS Head of School Erica Thomas says. “It happened to coincide with the Jets A-League grand final so we liaised with Newcastle Council to enable the game to be screened.
“It’s typical of the way we reach out to the city. Our students, past and present, are part of the very fabric of the town, its sporting and civic culture, and its something we’re very proud of.
“Another visible example of the school’s commitment to the city are the weekly community lunches, held at Christ Church Cathedral each Sunday for many years to feed those in need.”
