House of the Week | 11 Appletree Road, West Wallsend

When Leah Seaton and Nigel Raw first laid eyes on this 100-year-old home in West Wallsend its condition was “not good”.

But the couple have a love of Federation period homes and could see the potential in the rundown three-bedroom cottage.

They bought it around 10 years ago and over time have transformed it into a spacious five-bedroom residence which commands attention at 11 Appletree Road.

The home’s period charm was not the only appeal. The location, “central to everything” and “in a tight-knit community”, was a drawcard as well as the space offered in a block 1341 square metres in total.

It has meant plenty of room for birthday parties and to host family Christmases.

They thoughtfully restored and extended the residence, making it suitable for modern family living without forgoing its traditional charm.

“We tried to keep in mind the period that the house was built and wanted to be sensitive to that,” Leah said.

It its original condition it had three bedrooms, one bathroom, a sole living space and “a tiny, eat-in kitchen”.

Now, there is an open plan kitchen and living space that flows to a covered deck as well as a large double lock-up garage with a workshop and carport, which can double as an entertaining space.

There are timber floors, high ceilings, fretwork, french doors, granite bathrooms and multiple living spaces.

Belle Property Charlestown will take the property to auction on site on August 18. It has an inspection scheduled for 1pm on Saturday. A price guide has not yet been disclosed.
