Man charged with assaulting police, damage property after golf club attack in Mayfield

A MAN who swung a golf club at a parked grocery truck and then kicked a female police officer in the mouth during his arrest has been charged with a string of offences. 

The truck driver was preparing to make grocery delivery on Mounter Street, Mayfield, on Friday afternoon when another man armed with a golf club began damaging the parked truck, police said.

The passenger window was smashed but the driver was not injured.

Police arrived and found a 33-year-old man on the street.

During his arrest he allegedly kicked a female senior constable in the mouth.

She was taken to hospital and treated for a laceration to her mouth. 

The man was taken to Waratah police station and charged with destroy or damage property, use offensive weapon with intent to commit indictable offence, assault police officer in execution of duty occasioning actual bodily harm, and affray.

He was refused bail and faced Newcastle Bail Court on Saturday, where he was granted conditional bail to face the same court on August 23.
