ROADSHOW: Newcastle’s stories of entrepreneurialism are being showcased

Having relinquished the keys to our fair city in preparation for redevelopment, I find myself giving keynotes at conferences and forums around the country.

I have been demonstrating the value of creative enterprises as the catalyst for urban renewal. This is something Newcastle has benefited from since 2008.

It’s a great narrative and one that is being welcomed in regional centres that are experiencing high levels of vacant properties.

From Wagga to Mackay, Newcastle’s colourful stories of creative entrepreneurialism are being showcased in Renew in a Box, a travelling exhibition I have been trucking around.

Last week, this was a highlight at the 8point8 Regional Innovation and Small Business Conference in Wagga.

The general consensus was that Newcastle is recognised as an innovative and creative city.

It is key that we uphold this.
