GANG Of Youths drummer Dom Borzestowski stepped in to help fellow Newcastle musician Bodie Werleman on Tuesday after his drum kit was stolen.

Thieves broke into Werleman’s friend’s van on Monday night in Cooks Hill and stole his 1967 Premier kit with the trademark tiger print on the bass drum and his cymbals. The kit is valued at $6000.

Werleman, who formerly performed under the name Mr Sauce, recently released his debut album Bodie and has gigs booked until Sunday, including a show supporting Demi Mitchell on Wednesday night at Coal and Cedar.

“It’s pretty much my livelihood playing drums for people, so it’s upsetting,” Werleman said.

After hearing of Werleman’s plight Borzestowski, who is resting up at home in Newcastle in between touring commitments with Gang Of Youths, offered to lend him a drum kit until his instrument is returned or replaced.

Police are investigating the matter.
