SHE missed out on a berth in next week’s Test match against England in her home town, but Newcastle’s Sam Poolman has received a consolation prize after her selection in the Australian team for the Fast5 World Series.
Poolman debuted for Australia at the Fast5 World Series in Melbourne last October and has retained her place after an outstanding Super Netball series with GWS Giants, during which she recorded their best defensive stats and earned a new contract.
The six-team series will be held at Melbourne’s Hisense Arena on October 27-28.
The Australians will be hoping to improve on last year’s inaugural tournament, when they were beaten 34-15 by New Zealand in the play-offs. England won the final 34-29 against Jamaica.
Australia lost the 2016 decider 41-16 to New Zealand.
This will be the third and final time the Fast5 World Series will be played on Australian soil.
All teams will play six 24-minute games across the weekend. Each team will feature on both days of competition, with finals held on Sunday. It is estimated 1000 goals will be scored across the two days.
