Newcastle's The Argyle House applies for later Sunday closing time

The Argyle House, on the corner of Wharf Road and Argyle Street, has applied to extend its Sunday trading hours.

Owners of an inner city night spot applied to have trading hours extended less than a week after the NSW Independent Liquor and Gaming Authority ruled against significant changes to decade-old late trading conditions for licensed venues in the CBD.

Management of The Argyle House, on the corner of Argyle Street and Wharf Road, lodged an application with Newcastle City Council on September 5 to push the venue’s Sunday night closing time back from 10pm to midnight.

If council approves the change, the business will then be able to apply for a variation of its liquor licence.

Owners of The Argyle House did not want to comment on the application when contacted by the Newcastle Herald on Wednesday.
