I AM against all forms of bullying. It is bad enough to learn about young kids being bullied by their peers. But to read Wednesday's Newcastle Herald front page story (‘Doc Shock’, Herald 7/11) about junior doctors being bullied is something else. How can this be allowed to happen nowadays? Aren't these junior doctors entitled to a safe workplace? Who are these alleged "bullies" and what is being done to rid them from the system? Shame on the John Hunter Hospital, Calvary Mater, Maitland and Belmont hospitals if nothing changes.

I ENJOYED reading John Ure's letter to the editor (Letters 23/10), especially the part about his father's bikes. My dad used to ride his pushbike to work at Newbolds Factory until he bought a BSA Bantam motorbike in the early 1950s. I used to wait at the top of the back lane behind our house in Wallsend in the afternoons with a little cushion for dad to arrive after work and give me a short ride home. What fun it was! Into our back gate and park outside the kitchen window through which we would pull funny faces at mum to much laughter. Sadly, dad suffered with silicosis in later life, as many of his workmates did, but the good memories remained.

PACIFIC Park should be a jewel in the East End of Newcastle. A once-beautiful parkland, it is now very neglected and filled with litter, weeds and barren gardens. A team of gardeners used to look after it. Now the lawnmower is simply run over the lawns and any litter that might be in the way. With the Supercars approaching, along with a myriad of tourists, this beautiful park should be shown in its full glory. Come on, Newcastle City Council, spend some of that Supercars money on restoring this once beautiful haven.

WHAT a sad, misguided figure Mark Latham cuts now. Desperately snatching at the coat tails of the ridiculous Pauline Hanson, to gain some recognition. Looks like a marriage made in hell to me!

COLIN Fordham (Short Takes 5/11) you seem to have a bent with my use of the word gay, the Queen’s English can be translated in many forms. We went camping on the weekend up Clarence gorge, one of my favorite places to clear the mind and find peace. I suggest you take a trip with the dictionary, I'm sure you will have a happy experience.

CAN I ask what is going on with this sex war against the male species? In the U.S. the Girl Scouts of America, founded 1912, are trying to sue the Boy Scouts, founded 1910, for using the name scouts (CNBC, 7/11).
