A TEST call-up of sorts may see Belmont-born Greg West make his Sheffield Shield debut for NSW.
With regular Blues opening bowler Trent Copeland having been officially released from playing commitments this week to start a role with the new-look Seven Network cricket commentary team, left-arm paceman West is poised to step in as a replacement against South Australia at the SCG from Friday.
Uncapped West, who plays with Sydney club Mosman and has picked up 12 Futures League wickets this season, was 12th man for NSW against Western Australia in Perth last week.
Copeland’s television gig starts Thursday with the first Test between Australia and India in Adelaide. The 32-year-old has 23 wickets in four Shield games this year.
* FORMER Charlestown all-rounder Glenn Windsor, now with Sydney side Gordon, has kick started the Under-19 National Championships in style by producing figures of 4-25 and scoring 32 for ACT-NSW Country across the opening two days of the tournament in Adelaide.
The unbeaten team tackles Western Australia on Thursday, Northern Territory on Friday and Victoria Metro on Sunday.
* CENTRAL North quartet Synetta Manns, Kirsten Smith and debutants Claire Lennon and Jaclyn Vickery were selected this week in the Bush Breakers squad to contest the women’s Australian Country Championships in Victoria from January 5.
* NEWCASTLE junior teams will contest two state finals on Sunday. The under 16s are defending the title and meet Penrith while the under 14s play Illawarra.
