Former Newcastle representative batsman James Rushford returns to bolster University’s ranks for Sunday’s Tom Locker Cup final against Hamilton-Wickham at No.1 Sportsground.
Rushford has only played half of this season’s six encounters for the Sea Dragons, featuring a 72 off 63 balls first up on September 29, after scoring a total of 1126 runs across all three formats the previous two campaigns.
University skipper Andrew Harriott this week confirmed the right-hander’s inclusion for the one-day decider.
“He [Rushford] is available for Sunday and hopefully more so after Christmas,” Harriott said.
“It certainly strengthens the squad.”
The delayed final, which was washed out on October 28, means key Hamwicks all-rounder Sam Webber is available after being overseas for the original date.
Both sides topped their respective pools after going through the opening three 40-over fixtures undefeated.
University claimed their maiden Tom Locker Cup in 2016-17 after three previous final appearances. Hamwicks have five one-day titles with the last in 2014-15.
Play starts at midday.
