THE man accused of murdering mother-of-two Carly McBride and dumping her body in bushland outside Scone in 2014 will face an estimated three-month trial in Newcastle Supreme Court beginning in May, 2019.
Former Muay Thai kickboxer Sayle Kenneth Newson, 41, of Buff Point on the Central Coast, was represented by solicitor Mark Ramsland in Sydney Supreme Court on Friday. Mr Newson was arraigned in the same court in September and pleaded not guilty to murdering 31-year-old Ms McBride, his girlfriend of about eight weeks, in September, 2014.
Mr Newson’s co-accused, James Anthony Cunneen, represented by Public Defender Peter Krisenthal, was also arraigned in September and pleaded not guilty to accessory after the fact to murder. But the matter had stalled over the past few months, with the first trial date vacated due to insufficient court time.
On Friday, the parties agreed to reduce the length of the trial, which will begin on May 20, 2019.
