THE man accused of murdering an intruder who broke into his Hamilton home will face an estimated six-week trial in Newcastle Supreme Court in November, 2019.
Benjamin Batterham, who remains on bail, appeared in Sydney Supreme Court on Friday.
During the appearance, the 34-year-old was formally arraigned and pleaded not guilty to murder over the death of Ricky Slater-Dickson in Hamilton in March, 2016.
The trial, which is expected to last between four and six weeks, will begin on November 4, 2019. It will be about three-and-a-half years since Mr Slater-Dickson died shortly after breaking into Mr Batterham’s Cleary Street home.
Mr Batterham faced a four-day contested committal hearing in Newcastle Local Court in September, which had focused on the cause of death of Mr Slater-Dickson, who had been chased, held down and repeatedly punched in the head after being caught breaking into Mr Batterham’s home in the early hours of March 26, 2016.
