TO all the men who keep on writing about their religion to the Newcastle Herald letters page. Let me give you a woman’s perspective. Religion was created by men for men because they fear and want to control women. You only have to look to the natural world where it is always the female who picks the male for procreation. Religion has twisted that fact.

REGARDING John Butler (Letters, 9/10): We have two governments disputing whether an Australian was also a citizen of Fiji and you immediately assume the Australian government is in the wrong? I realise fair-mindedness is way too much to ask of the Left, but at least aim for a facsimile of it.
Sean Farnham, Kurri Kurri
I DON’T know why people in the Lake Macquarie council area are complaining about only having a regular bin garbage collection every two weeks. Being older, I used to worry about slipping, going down the drive to place it near the kerb. Now, I have 100 blowflies to pick me up if I slip.
Richie Blanch, Charlestown
I JUST don’t get it. This state is having the worst drought in memory, homeless people by the thousands, hospitals public transport is a mess and it seems this government’s main priority is spending hundreds of millions on sporting stadiums.
Andy McFadden, Warners Bay
MY position is clear too and I won't be voting for Ms Berejiklian (Short Takes, 7/1).
Craig Budden, Hamilton
IT seems to me the two most regular contributors to Short Takes and those who never stop moaning, whinging, complaining and criticising are the butcher and the coalminer; with nary a positive word for anything (except meat and coal). To paraphrase Jack Gibson "those two would boo Santa!".
Mac Maguire, Charlestown
WHAT is the point of banning single use plastic bags (‘Protect Port from plastic, Herald, 8/1) when Coles and others are still supplying plastic bags?
Sue Fower, Waratah
RICHARD Ryan was pulling a long bow, indeed (Short Takes, 8/1), suggesting we seek confirmation of his vicarious views from “the original inhabitants of this continent”. With 250,000 or so generations since they migrated here there would not be too many of them still around to help us out.
Ron Elphick, Buff Point
I THOUGHT Steve Barnett was on holidays, sick of his comments. Why does this paper publish his dribble?
Bruce Cook, Adamstown
WONDER if Newcastle council has gone throughout the NSW Housing buildings that have caught on fire recently and put the tenants out while a fire safety audit takes place. Have they now asked Housing NSW for a complete safety audit? Of course not.
