HERE comes The Drop. Surfest music festival The Drop released its inaugural line-up earlier this year for Newcastle and it’s expected to make a major splash on the city’s festival circuit.
Indie-folk heavyweight brother and sister duo Angus and Julia Stone will headline the festival on March 16 at King Edward Park, alongside melodic Brisbane rockers Ball Park Music, Wollongong surf-punks Hockey Dad, ’80s retro-pop act Client Liaison and indie-folk singer-songwriter Alex The Astronaut.
The World Surf League-aligned tour is a “celebration of music, surf, community culture, and a love of the ocean,” and began last year with events at the Gold Coast, Torquay and Margaret River. Following its success The Drop was expanded to Newcastle and Manly.
King Edward Park has been used in recent years for Carols By Candlelight, but The Drop will mark its debut as a indie-rock venue.
There will be plenty of competition for the ears and wallets of music punters throughout the Hunter on March 16.
Baby boomer-focused festival Live At The Foreshore is scheduled for the Newcastle Foreshore, followed by electro-dance event Up Down the following day.
Meanwhile at Bimbadgen, pop princess Kylie Minogue will bring her Golden tour to the Hunter Valley for A Day On The Green.
