Sky Sports in the UK has poked a bit of fun at the Newcastle Jets’ new home and away kit for its remarkable similarities to English Premier League side Crystal Palace.
“You can copy my homework, just change it a little bit,” said a Sky Sports post on social media.
It then cheekily asked Crystal Palace fans whether they’d “seen these kits before”.
Topics reckons the Jets would do well to copy Crystal Palace in more ways than one. The south London-based club has some of the best fans in the world. They chant all game, even if they’re team is losing. The atmosphere at their ground, Selhurst Park, is something to behold.
Mind you, it should be said that Jets fans go all right when it comes to chanting and supporting their team.
Palace also have an awe-inspiring eagle mascot, which glides across the field before games.
The Jets could do with a mascot like this. But what could it be? Any ideas? Let us know at email@example.com.

During construction of the light rail, a bloke was often seen in the area at night in a range of costumes.
A Topics spy snapped his picture one night when he was dressed as a superhero.
His story is a bit of a mystery. Some believe he could be a trainspotter.
We wonder whether he could be the next Super Hubert.
Hopefully he’ll appear at the light rail community open day on Sunday or when the service kicks off on Monday.

Once we see him flying above Newcastle’s high-rise buildings [we don’t have any skyscrapers] then we’ll believe it.
We wrote last week about similarities between Newcastle City Council’s new logo and the Wallsend Village logo.
But there’s similar and then there’s very, very similar. We’re referring to ASIC’s new logo. It’s the one on the left of this image. The one on the right is the old image.
This new brand cost more than $100,000.
“More than $40,000 went to creative development and almost $60,000 went to the creation of collateral ranging from website updates to new Microsoft Office templates,” the SMH reported.
ASIC is the Australian Securities and Investment Commission. You know, they’re the ones in charge of making sure business behaves itself.
Its website has a “what we do” section that states: “Our vision is for a fair, strong and efficient financial system for all Australians”.
Noble aim, that.
We should point out, though, that banking royal commissioner Kenneth Hayne criticised ASIC in his final report.
“Too often, financial services entities that broke the law were not properly held to account,” he said.
Could be time for ASIC to overhaul its image. Perhaps a new brand?
