A PARAGLIDER has managed to walk away uninjured after his parachute became entangled with a lamp post on Thursday.
The man had been paragliding over Newcastle, but as he came down near Watt Street his chute wrapped around the post. He was stuck, hanging almost five metres off the ground.
Emergency services were called to the scene about 11.15am, including two Fire and Rescue crews and paramedics. On arrival crews found the man had managed to detach himself and safely make his way to the ground in what could only be described as a lucky escape.
Paramedics checked him out at the scene, but he did not require further medical attention.
Fire and Rescue crews diverted traffic on Watt Street and setup a ladder platform to reach the lamp post and remove the broken chute.
The incident was all wrapped-up within 30 minutes and the paraglider got to walk away, chute in hand.
