The popular Newcastle Beerfest returns to Camp Shortland on March 30 for its sixth edition.
A celebration of independent, Australian-owned and brewed craft beer, the event draws the nation's top brewers to Newcastle's harbourside for an edifying afternoon of brews, grooves and food.
"We've got over 35 craft breweries from around Australia coming in for the weekend," event co-director, Taiyo Namba, from Nagisa Japanese Restuarant on Honeysuckle, said.
"It's a unique way for them to show off their wares to a craft beer appreciating region like Newcastle and the Hunter."
Local brewers on display will include the likes of Murrays, Hope Estate and Foghorn Brewhouse, as well as nationally acclaimed players like Young Henrys, Bent Spoke and Moo Brew, just to name a few.
"There will be over 100 beers available on the day," said Taiyo who has been the driving force for Newcastle Beerfest along with co-event director Luke Tilse from Happy Wombat for six years.
Both have extensive backgrounds in hospitality in general and craft beer in particular. Luke managed the The Dockyard at Honeysuckle before setting up the Happy Wombat, renowned for it's craft beer options.
Taiyo has curated Nagisa's award-winning bar menu, featuring not only an extensive list of local whiskeys, wines and gins, but also a mouth-watering range of local and international craft beers, since the restaurant's inception nearly 15 years.
"We started Beerfest at Honeysuckle, but come the fourth year, we needed more space, which was a good problem to have, and so we made the move to Camp Shortland, which is a great location for what we do," Taiyo said.
As per previous events, the afternoon will feature not only great craft beers, but also live music and tasty food.
Byron Bay-based soul diva Lisa Hunter will be performing live, providing the perfect vibe with her tasty mix of soul, Motown, funk and disco classics
Punters also have a choice of food vendors, including yummy gyozas from Nagisa, buns from Bao Brothers, hot dogs from Fritz Wiener and burgers from We Got Meat.
The day kicks off at 11am and runs to 5.30pm.

"This is a great event for the city," Taiyo said. "There's a really appreciative craft beer audience out there in the Hunter.
"We're harbourside, with room to move, great craft beers, cool live music and food on offer. It makes for a top afternoon."
