HOP TO IT: Newcastle Beerfest offers craft beer lovers a chance to savour some of the best brews from around Australia.

Hunter craft beer lovers will be in their element at the sixth annual Hunter Beerfest on Saturday, March 30 at Camp Shortland.

Over 35 independent and Australian-owned, local and interstate  brewers will descend on Our Town to showcase their wares in a relaxed afternoon that offers pundits a heady mix of brews, grooves and food.

"It's our sixth year and there's a lot on offer including great food, live music and family entertainment, but the focus has always remained on the craft brewer," event co-organiser Taiyo Namba said.

"We've seen so many new and talented brewers come onto the scene and many will be present on Sunday.

"From the east coast to the west, and places in between.

"Local guys like  Foghouse Brewhouse on King Street, and  Hope Estate Brewery in Pokolbin are national craft beer award winners and they will be there.

"Along with that we'll have  Gages Road brews from WA, and Matsos from Broome.

"With over 100 beers on offer, there's going to be something for everyone, from the craft beer  novice looking for an introduction to the scene to the seasoned craft beer drinker looking to expand their palette."

Soul diva Lisa Hunter, from Byron Bay, will provide live music  from about 2.30pm,  supported by singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist Anyerin Drury.

The Tumbletown Mobile Play Centre will be in operation adding to the family day vibe and punters will have a choice of food vendors, including yummy gyozas from Nagisa,  buns from Bao Brothers, hot dogs from Fritz Wiener and burgers from We Got Meat.

The day kicks off at 11am and runs to approximately 5.30pm.

Those looking to attend should visit www.newcastlebeerfest.com.au to register and get their tickets.

Cost is $60, which gets you 10 tasting tokens and one food token.

Additional drinks and food are available for purchase separately on the day.

"It's a unique chance to access so many quality Australian craft beers concentrated in the one great location, harbourside,  close to hassle-free transport so leave the car at home and come on down," Taiyo said.
