I TOTALLY agree with Shannon Kemp (Letters 8/3), councils should support their local RSL sub branches on Anzac Day. They are quick at being seen promoting and laying wreaths but won't cover the cost. I spent Anzac Day at Daly Waters a few years ago and after we marched the publican put on breakfast for everyone who attended. I realise that it was only small, around 30 marched and about 80 watched, but he still showed his appreciation for those who served. I don't expect the councils to do this, but I think that they should cover the costs.

I DON'T disagree that things have gone on behind closed doors forever, but unless Brad Hill (Short Takes 8/3) has bad teeth, plays the banjo and lives up the hills away from society, his comments are offensive to women who have suffered assault, sexual or otherwise, in the hands of boofhead cockroach league players.

I THINK you’ve missed the point, Mr Hill (Short Takes 8/3). Go to footy training, take your camera, bonk all you want, but don't share your happy snaps. It’s called respect; nothing more, nothing less.

REGARDING Queens Wharf tram stop, can someone please explain why it is Queens Wharf rather than Queen’s Wharf?

THE Liberal Party is a long-established party in this region, so it is disheartening to hear reports that a party staffer connected to the Port Stephens Liberal candidate’s campaign has been trolling the current local MP on social media ('Losing face', Newcastle Herald 9/3). Instead, this person could have been using their time doing something of value to help local residents, such as advocating that the PFAS contamination be addressed. Very disappointing.

IN a recent London interview, Malcolm Turnbull said he is no longer Australian Prime Minister because of a “peculiar Australiam form of madness” (SMH 7/3). I have to agree, I think that describes Mr Turnbull perfectly.

WHY can't they build a new power house on the land around Liddell? Everything is already there: coal, water, lines, poles and land - lots of it.

THANKS for the reminder Keith Parsons (Short Takes 11/3). The Inner West Light Rail Stage 1 was Bob Carr's very own 'vanity project'. A short 3.6km to get his punters from Central Station out to Darling Harbour, the Casino, the Fish Markets and the Wenty Dogs. It does look like a good move 22 years and an extra 10km later. Hindsight is 20/20!

RUTH Burrell (Short Takes 8/2): I'm not overly enamoured with Labor and don't disagree on independents. Unfortunately, in my opinion the Liberals have brought some independents' independence into question.
