TENDERS are open for a component of the Newcastle Inner City Bypass project offering pedestrians and cyclists a crossing over Newcastle Road at Jesmond.
Roads and Maritime Services announced on Tuesdaythat the shared path bridge tenders were open. The 33-metre structure will replace the traffic lights and crossing near Jesmond Park.
“The work will also upgrade and widen Coles Street to provide pedestrian and cyclist access to the existing cycleway to the west,” a Roads and Maritime Services spokesman said.
“The new bridge will be used by both pedestrians and cyclists to cross busy Newcastle Road.”
Power and water infrastructure will be moved before the bridge is built.
Tenders will close on April 12.
