Eagles coach Damian Zane had plenty to smile about on Sunday after the 6-1 rout of Magic, but the performance of Will Bower was especially pleasing.
Bower set up two goals and scored one himself as Oliver Smith's hat-trick and Josh Rose's stunning volley stole the spotlight.
Zane, though, made special mention of Bower.
"Last pre-season he didn't work on his game at all and he came back and was as rusty as anything," Zane said.
"As the season went on, he started getting into his groove, but this pre-season he's come back well.
"He's formed a good relationship with Ollie off the park and that's started to show with their performance. You watch them play and they are gelling.
"He's always had that X-factor in him. And the goal showed the change in him. He thought his way through it rather than just blasting it. He was calm and composed.
"He had a really good pre-season and I can see a really good season coming for him."
Edgeworth's opening attacking blitz against last season's grand final winners sent a warning to the competition, especially given the players they could add to the mix later in the season.
Josh Cairelli came off the bench to set up two goals and another former Jets Youth livewire Adam Cawley was on late after a restricted pre-season. Former A-League golden boot Daniel McBreen (foot) is out injured for now and former Canberra NYL attacker Daniel Fabrizio is working his way back from knee surgery.
