Darius Dunn is passionate about hemp and the endless benefits the plant can offer.

His interest was originally triggered by a quest to find natural alternatives to help manage one of his son’s severe eczema condition.

After discovering a hemp balm that “delivered the goods”, so commenced an epic journey that has seen Mr. Dunn establish his business, Made In Hemp.

"Most people think of Hemp as pot, but whilst hemp is related to marijuana it misses out on the psychoactive component - THC. Hemp is used for: food, fibre, medicine, clothing, you can build with it, manufacture cars with it, run cars on it, make medicines and the list goes in" Mr. Dunn said.

"Hemp is a great food source. All parts of the plant are usable, you don't need herbicides and it doesn't require as much water to grow, thus it has untapped potential as an industrial crop.

"I've visited a $170 million facility in Canada that processes hemp, benefiting growers and consumers and am planning to create a similar industry here in Australia. Hemp truly is an amazing crop and the world needs to understand that."

Through locations in Islington, Long Jetty, the web and now many Australian health food stores, Made In Hemp products are helping change people’s perceptions about the benefits, value and necessity of the industry and products produced from it.

"Hemp is a beautiful material to wear, it breathes, is incredibly robust and of course natural. It also has particularly strong anti-microbial properties," Mr. Dunn said.

"Made In Hemp stocks a complete range of men's and women's clothing, casual and traditional gear. We carry linen and towels, too! Again, beautiful materials to have close to the skin”.

"Hemp seed oil has excellent moisturising qualities for all skin types. We sell everything from face creams to body butters, to the healing balm that helped manage my son's eczema - all made at our plant at Long Jetty on the Central Coast. Our hemp seed food range is rich in omegas, protein, fibre and magnesium and certainly a healthy alternative."

Mr Dunn is also an authority on hemp medicine and the differences between hemp, marijuana, THC and CBD.

"Our customer base includes everybody from loyal hippy advocates through to professionals, police officers, magistrates, healthy folks and just conscious consumers in general, and so it should," Mr. Dunn said. "Hemp is no longer an alternate crop, it should be embraced by all.
