DESPITE her unquestioned punk credentials, Karen O is an impressive soul singer. Lux Prima is the lush, psychedelic and ambitious collaboration between the Yeah Yeah Yeahs frontwoman and versatile producer Brian "Danger Mouse" Burton, best known for his work with The Gorillaz, Gnarls Barkley, The Black Keys and Adele.
First up, this is undoubtedly O's best vocal performance. At various times she's vulnerable (Reveries), soulful (Turn The Light) and powerful (Woman). Burton, in turn, has developed a dreamy psychedelic and soulful soundscape to support O and it's never overstated, but contains enough surprises to keep you invested.
Lux Prima doesn't explode with the excitement of YYY's finest moments like Fever To Tell, but O lulls you into the journey through subtly.
