Tattoos continue to be a hot commodity, increasingly recognised as an art form embraced by the nation.

People choose to get tattoos for many reasons - as art, on a whim, to mark an occasion or pay respects.

Award-winning tattooist John Charles Sayas of SAYAS ink Tattoo Clinic at Jewells, believes everyone has a story to tell.  It's John's passion to tell that story in ink.

"In tattooing I look up to Silvano Fiato, Dimitry Samohin and Alex De Pase, I respect  many local tattoo artists, and in business I'm guided by Amenza," he said.

John strives to tell a story with every tattoo he creates.

"That's what I specialise in. Being all rounded is the best. I get to work with every style and every opportunity to improve all art skills," John said.

Born in the Philippines province of Bataan but now based permanently in Newcastle, John never thought of tattoo art as a career.

"I was experimenting with my old friends back when I was in second year high school but fell in love with the process of hand poke tattooing, and one thing has led to another," he said.

John believes art is part of life and in everything we do.

"We see and create where ever we can," he said. "I love  listening to American RNB while tattooing. It gets the blood pumping, but driving home listening to classical music keeps me relaxed."

John wants to help the industry become more open and help artists and apprentices  develop their skills and become more professional.

"I really want to to make the industry become more acceptable to the public eye," he said.

John came to attention at the prestigious Ink Attack Tattoo Convention on the Sunshine Coast and has gone on to win awards at numerous International Tattoo Shows.

John can help design the right look for your tattoo and complete it with perfection.

"We have a small humble clinic, very bright and clean and sterile," John said. "Our staff are good people who are fun to work, they're artistic people who crave to learn more."

SAYAS ink Tattoo Clinic is located at Jewellstown Plaza Shopping Centre on Ntaba Rd, Jewells.
