The Newcastle Jets Youth side showed their sharpness to beat Charlestown 3-1 in the Northern NSW NPL season opener, but can they bring the same acuity to defeat Weston at Rockwell Automation Park on Sunday?

ROUND ONE RECAP: Charlestown keeper Nathan Archbold denied Angus Thurgate one-on-one in the 16th minute but the A-League squad member made no mistake on a counter-attack in the 21st. The Jets made it 2-0 in the 32nd minute when Maki Petratos scored after newcomer Mat Barkho pounced on a loose pass.
Thurgate was stopped one on one in the 45th minute but the Blues also had first-half chances. Cal Lewis hit a volleyed shot into the crossbar in the 23rd minute and Kane Goodchild was denied off the rebound by Noah James, who blocked Lewis at close range on 25 minutes.
Jet Kieran Hayes was wide twice before he struck in the 49th minute after Archbold stopped Petratos.
Charlestown got one back in the 56th minute when Jets defender Callum Gabriel chipped James with a back-pass. James hurt his shoulder trying to save the own goal and was subbed off five minutes later.
On Friday night, Weston host Hamilton, who will be without defensive recruit Reece Pettit (holidays). Striker Jed Hornery was in doubt with a hamstring problem.
The Bears were tipped to give latest recruit Tristan Esquilant, a former Jets Youth keeper, a start.
